This cute & quick heart banner makes the perfect last-minute Valentine’s Day decor.
If you need something to dress up your room for Valentine’s Day on the fly, this sweet little banner is the perfect fit.
Whether you use it to decorate a classroom, bedroom, or give it away as a gift, you’ll have so much fun making it! (I know I did)
This banner is also a great yarn buster – so get those yarn scraps out and get ready to make something fun!
Materials needed:
- any size yarn (I used worsted weight)
- crochet hook recommended for size yarn (I used a 5mm)
- Tapestry needle
- Craft scissors
Abbreviations:
ch – chain
st – stitch
sl st – slip stitch
tr – treble crochet
dc – double crochet
sc – single crochet
For this banner, I made 2 hearts, 6 “x’s” and 6 “o’s” and strung them together with a needle and yarn.
The hearts and letters are roughly 2 inches x 2 inches and the finished project ended up being around 5ft long.
You can make as many or as few as you want! Depending on the finished size and pattern of the banner, you may need more or less than what I made.
How to Crochet a heart
Crocheting a heart is very simple! If you’re familiar with making a magic ring, chains, double crochet, and treble crochet, this should be a breeze!
This heart pattern is worked in a single round. starting with a magic ring.
You will start with a magic ring.
Round 1: ch 2. Work the following stitches into the ring: 3 tr, 4 dc, 1 tr, 4 dc, 3 tr. ch 2, and sl st into magic ring. Tie off and finish.

How to Crochet the letter “X”
The letter “X” is made by creating two posts and sewing them together to form the “X” shape.
Make 2 of the following:
Ch. 9
Row 1: sc in 2nd chain from hook and each ch across (8 sc)
Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.
Shape pieces into an “X” shape and sew together.
How to Crochet the letter “O”
The letter “O” is worked in the round and joined at the end.
ch 17, sl st into first ch to join.
Row 1: sc in each ch around, slip st in first sc
Fasten off, leaving a long enough tail for sewing.
Once you’ve made all of your hearts and letters, all you need to do now is string them together.
HELPFUL TIP: Place them on the floor to configure how you want your banner to look before stringing together. Then grab a tapestry needle and sew through the back of the hearts & letters uniformly through the tops.
And that’s it! You’ve made yourself a cute little crochet heart banner.
